Róisín Dubh Comedy presents… Comedy KARLnival Online with Karl Spain & friends
Featuring Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted / My Hero / Death in Paradise)
Zoe Lyons (Mock The Week / Have I Got News for You / QI)
& Andrew Ryan (wants you to know he’s from Cork)
The show is hosted by Karl Spain
Friday 19th March.
First can we say thank you. Last Friday’s studio-based show featuring Jason Byrne was hugely enjoyable and a massive step forward on the technology front. We couldn’t have done it without our brilliant front row audience bringing the heckles, the laughs and the applause. How brilliant was it, after a full year away from the stage, for the comedians to interact with a massive wall of genuine comedy fans? The new studio sound was impressive and the overall spectacle of performers playing to a proper comedy audience was spectacular, a little like a low budget Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
Of course there is room for improvement and we are striving to find the balance between atmosphere and noise – we need laughter for the live room experience and let’s face it, comics need constant validation. Comedy doesn’t work in a vacuum, hence the lack of comedy clubs in space. Please remember that we are not a professional TV company, rather we are comedy promoters trying to make the best use of available technology.
We’ll return to the studio again over the coming weeks, but our next show is back to the previous format – with the comedians joining via Cisco Webex from home, and a few tech fixes to improve the quality of the show for livestream observers and VIPs. Speaking of VIPs, we sorely missed the pre & post show craic last week, but they kicked us out of the studio at 11pm and Karl needed to catch the late flight home from Tenerife. So that craic will be back next time.
Ardal O’ Hanlon
Renowned, even amongst the bitter ranks of his fellow comedians as a master, Ardal’s technique and demeanour set him apart from other acts. Ardal is a Galway festival favourite and indeed a favourite at every festival he plays. Yes, he is extremely likeable and yes, we all know how he became really famous, but, crucially, he is very very funny. He has a comic brain par-excellence which can reduce any audience to helpless tears of laughter. He is justifiably one of the most popular stand ups of his generation.
A highly acclaimed stand up, Ardal has toured to sell out audiences internationally (including extensive live work across the US, Canada, Australia, Far East and Europe), released two top ten stand up DVDs (Ardal O’Hanlon Live and Ardal O’Hanlon Live in Dublin) and headlined Live at the Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Roadshow.
Ardal’s vast TV credits include: Father Ted (C4), My Hero (BBC), After Hours (Sky), Cucumber (Sky), Blessed (BBC), London Irish (C4), Skins (C4), Doctor Who (BBC) and most recently – BBC’s Death in Paradise. Ardal has starred in the feature films, Wide Open Spaces, Greyfriars Bobby, Twice Shy and Handsome Devil.
…Skilfully handled running jokes, his manipulation of a capacity crowd is just as impressive. -The Daily Telegraph
‘…a brilliant comic mind working away to get the most out of every superbly sharp line.’ –Timeout
Zoe is undoubtedly one of the hottest talents on the international circuit, having performed from Melbourne to Mumbai and Auckland to Andover! In 2021 Zoe hosted her own game show, Lightning, on BBC 2.
As well as appearing on Have I Got News for You, Qi, Celebrity MasterChef and being a series regular on Mock The Week, Zoe’s extensive TV credits also include Live at the Apollo (BBC1), The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC2), Room 101 (BBC1), Hypothetical (Dave), Dave Gorman’s Terms and Conditions Apply (Dave), Pointless Celebrities (BBC1) and she was a winner of Celebrity Mastermind (BBC1).
She is also a familiar voice on Radio 4 including The News Quiz, Just a Minute and The Unbelievable Truth.
“Her material is diverse; flitting from one subject to another without breaking pace and she hits the right comedic tone every time” – Funny.co.uk
Andrew Ryan is from Cork.
He has appeared on many TV shows in the UK & Ireland including Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3), Best of the Edinburgh Festival Live (BBC3), The Blame Game (BBC1), and Live at The Comedy Store (Comedy Central.
“Ferociously intelligent, Ryan is a great writer. Charming, hilarious and accessible with some really powerful thinking underneath it all.” THE SKINNY
“Delivered with a frenetic Irish brogue propelled along by a nervous energy that threatens to come to a halt at any moment, it’s a very entertaining hour of comedy that comes in a very natural style.” FEST MAG
The Small Print:
There are two types of tickets for this show.
‘Observer’ Ticket – €12 / €10 (members)
There’s nothing to it really, you just watch the show from 9pm on our live stream.
You will be sent the link 30 minutes before your start time.
‘VIP’ Front Row Ticket – €15 / €12.50 (members)
Be a part of the action, join the video call and provide the laughs, LIVE. (Very limited number of tickets)
With this ticket you are asked to have your mic and camera on, so you’re visible to the comedians & occasionally our livestream audience and your laughter adds to the atmosphere of our show. We do ask our VIPs to turn their mic down to 25%, and be aware of their surroundings at home, ie: mute themselves during conversations, watch out for the crying baby / barking dogs / pizza delivery guy – as all the unintentional background noises take away from the quality of the show. Too much noise and you will be muted!
You also get access to an extra 30 minutes of banter pre-show from 8:30pm in the “Green Room” with Karl Spain.
You will be sent the link at 8pm to join the fun from 8:30pm.
