Sharon Shannon is no stranger here in Ireland. She originates from Co Clare, and at present lives in Galway, where she does most of her writing. Sharon is a must see live act, a master of the accordion who can also play various other musical instruments too. She has worked with so many well-known artists, including Bono, Willie Nelson, Sinead O’Connor, The Waterboys and Mundy. It was while working on her Galway Girl album – which went platinum 4 times in Ireland – that she collaborated with Mundy, and “Galway Girl”, the title track from that album became a huge hit here in Ireland, going on to become one of the most downloaded songs ever in Ireland, helping Sharon to win two Meteor Awards, two years in a row.
Sharon Shannon has had several number 1 albums, DVD’s, & Cd’s here in Ireland. As I already mentioned, one of her best known songs is with Mundy & it’s called “Galway Girl”, view the video above to listen. That song can still be heard in various venues, from dance halls to festivals. Speaking of festivals, Sharon will be doing Glastonbury this summer, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival, plus more closer to home, the Galway Arts Festival.
Sharon Shannon is not only a very talented musician, she is also a very gentle caring individual she loves her animals and she rescues a lot of unwanted or abandoned animals. It doesn’t matter what kind of animal it is, she will step in and rescue it. She would be what we call an earth angel. She in recent years did a charity parachute jump in aid of the animal shelter she runs in Ireland.
